Cleaning

Keeping your chicken coop clean keeps odors down and helps to keep chickens healthy. A lot of chicken keepers find the task of cleaning their chicken coop unpleasant at best. We offer several options to make it not only faster to clean your coop but possible to make your chicken coop even cleaner in less time. Are you looking for the ultimate in an easy-to-clean chicken coop?

A finished interior is a key component in a totally sanitizable, washable, chicken coop interior. We customize vinyl paneling to the interior of your coop and use plastic molding and give it a watertight seal in all seams and openings. You will also have washable poly nesting box dividers. If you want to go the extra mile, you can choose a finished ceiling as well. Pair the finished interior with the litter tray with double clean-out lids and epoxy floor and you will have no problem keeping your coop as clean as is possible for a chicken coop! Litter Trays and Clean-Out Lids
Clean your coop faster and do full cleanings less often with litter trays and cleanout lid options.

A clean-out lid is a hinged opening, usually on the back of a chicken coop. It opens and is kept out of the way with latches. A litter tray is a lightweight, easy-to-clean tray that can be pulled out of a chicken coop through a clean-out lid. Our Litter Tray and Clean-Out Lid System enable you to do a quick weekly coop cleaning. Pair that with a full monthly cleaning to keep your chickens healthy and to keep odors down. The litter tray is built-in under the roosting bars. When chickens are inside the coop, it is usually at night when they are sleeping on the roosting bars. Because of this, most of their droppings will be below the roosting bars. The Litter Tray and Clean-Out Lid System will help you to collect the bulk of the mess in the litter trays. Under the roosting bars, we add vinyl-coated galvanized wire. This is easy to clean with a brush after making it wet as part of your monthly coop cleaning and keeps the chickens from jumping down into the litter trays and making themselves a mess. We developed this system in conjunction with veteran chicken keepers who told us that this is what they did back in the day. Genius! In the Litter Tray and Clean-Out Lid System, the clean-out lid is above the floor level so that the litter trays can be directly below the roosting bars. Another placement for a clean-out lid is at floor level. People love this option because for a full coop cleaning, the litter from the bottom of the coop can simply be pushed right out the back of the coop and into a wheelbarrow, trash can or onto a tarp. Monthly cleanings can be done without a clean-out lid. Litter is then pushed out the people-sized door. For the best in easy-to-clean chicken coop options, choose the Litter Tray with Double Clean Out Lids. This gives the easy-to-clean weekly options along with the no-fuss monthly solution.

For Combination Style chicken coops we have added a hinged clean-out for the area of run below the coop. This was a style change for us in 2015. We lifted the coop off the ground and gave chickens more run under the coop. The chickens loved it, but their owners told us that they were struggling to get the space unto the coop clean. One brilliant customer suggested a hinged clean-out and so, here it is. We hope it makes your life just a tad better.

Chicken House Cleaning

  • Quickly emptying the clean-out tray(s) is reported by our customers as a fast and easy way to manage weekly coop cleaning.
  • Monthly clean-outs are faster with a tarp on the ground outside the clean-out door. Simply use a broom to push to litter material onto the tarp for disposal.
  • Epoxy floors are washable with soap and water. The 12” washable wall boarder is sealed with silicone to protect the subfloor as well. Walls should only be scraped if you find they need to be cleaned

Exterior Chicken House Maintenance

  • Re-stain wood board and batten siding every three to four years.
  • DuraTemp siding is lower maintenance and can usually be repainted with outdoor paint from your hardware store about every 15 years.
